三錢六擲解Cast简繁

Xie, six in the third placeHexagram 40, line 3 · Xie (Release) · changing to 32

The line

Text負且乘,致寇至,貞吝。Carrying a load on the back while riding in a carriage: this brings the robbers. Persisting brings humiliation.

In plain wordsCarrying a load on your back, yet riding in a carriage — holding a place you are not fit for and parading it about, you bring the robbers on yourself. Even if you came by the position properly, it is humiliating. Only by stepping aside can you escape.

The Image commentary on this line

負且乘,亦可醜也,自我致戎,又誰咎也。

"Carrying a load on the back while riding in a carriage": this too is shameful. When I myself bring on the armed attack, who else is to blame?

The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.

Verdict

慎Proceed with care. There is some risk, or some regret left over, but nothing serious. Notice it early, correct it early, and things turn for the better.

  • 吝 humiliation: a small, lingering difficulty that comes from not correcting course

Asking about work, love or money

Work
Your position outstrips your ability, and you flaunt it everywhere; that is inviting envy and attack on yourself. Even if you came by the position properly, it is humiliating. Rein yourself in early, or simply step aside.
Love
Putting on a show you can't keep up to attract someone, or flaunting your relationship, only invites gossip and trouble. Even if your feelings are real, it ends in embarrassment. Tone it down; keeping a low profile is what keeps you safe.
Money
Your money is not yet secure, and you are already splashing it around and showing off; that is inviting trouble to your own door. Even if the money was earned honestly, this is humiliating. Drop the show; only a low profile will keep you out of it.

Line position

A yin line in a yang place: it is not in its proper place. Its partner is the top line, which is also yin, so there is no answer from it.

Third place: the top of the lower trigram, a place of risk. A moment of transition. Be on guard.
