Gou, nine at the topHexagram 44, line 6 · Gou (Encounter) · changing to 28
The line
In plain wordsMeeting at the tip of the horn — the position is too high and too hard, and you meet no one. A bit humiliating, but for that very reason you were not tainted by the bad thing; no blame.
The Image commentary on this line
姤其角,上窮吝也。
"Encounter at the horns": at the top it is exhausted, and there is humiliation.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
慎Proceed with care. There is some risk, or some regret left over, but nothing serious. Notice it early, correct it early, and things turn for the better.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- Your manner is too lofty and too hard; people can't get close, collaborations never come about, and that is bound to be awkward. The good part is that it has also kept you clear of trouble; being a bit alone is fine, so don't bend toward the wrong people just to fit in.
- Love
- You are too aloof and too hard, and even when the other person wants to come close, they can't; it is lonely, and a bit embarrassing. But this way you have not stirred up trouble you shouldn't have; painful as it is, you are not in the wrong.
- Money
- You guard things too tightly and too rigidly, so neither openings nor partnerships come your way, and you look a little isolated and awkward. The good part is that you haven't touched any money of doubtful origin either, and that is no mistake.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Gou.
Line position
A yang line in a yin place: it is not in its proper place. Its partner is the third line, which is also yang, so there is no answer from it.
Top place: the end of the matter. What reaches its limit turns. Know when to stop.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three backs, old yang), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Gou (Encounter); when this line changes it becomes Daguo (Great Excess): hexagram 44 changing to 28.
