Xun, nine in the third placeHexagram 57, line 3 · Xun (The Gentle Wind) · changing to 59
The line
In plain wordsYou are not by nature someone who can bow your head; you force yourself to comply and fail at it time after time. Humiliating.
The Image commentary on this line
頻巽之吝,志窮也。
The humiliation of "yielding again and again": the purpose is exhausted.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
慎Proceed with care. There is some risk, or some regret left over, but nothing serious. Notice it early, correct it early, and things turn for the better.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- You are not someone who bows easily. You force yourself to go along, hold it in a few times, then push back again, over and over; nothing is more embarrassing. Cooperate sincerely where you can, and don't force yourself to agree to what you can't do.
- Love
- You don't really want to give way, yet you force yourself to accommodate the other person; after giving in a few times you can't hold back and blow up, and it is embarrassing for you both. Rather than forcing yourself to keep conceding, calmly say where your limits are.
- Money
- You don't really accept the terms others propose, yet you reluctantly nod again and again, then go back on your word, and both your face and your credibility suffer. If you can't accept something, don't agree to it in the first place.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Xun.
Line position
A yang line in a yang place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the top line, which is also yang, so there is no answer from it.
Third place: the top of the lower trigram, a place of risk. A moment of transition. Be on guard.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three backs, old yang), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Xun (The Gentle Wind); when this line changes it becomes Huan (Dispersion): hexagram 57 changing to 59.
