不及其君,臣不可過也。

"Not reaching the ruler": the minister must not go past him.

The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.

Verdict

平Neutral. Neither good nor bad. Do your part, correct mistakes, and nothing will go wrong.

  • 无咎 no blame: no fault attaches, often because a mistake is corrected in time

Asking about work, love or money

Work
To get things done you can go one step further and find someone more suitable to talk to, but don't go over everyone's heads to have the very top make the call. Go to the person you should go to and keep to your role; nothing will go wrong.
Love
You can be a little more forward and caring than usual, but keep your sense of measure: don't cross the other person's boundaries, and don't decide for them on anything they have not agreed to. That way you will not go wrong.
Money
Spending or giving a little more on small things is fine; large sums and big decisions beyond your proper share, leave them alone. Going one small step further is all right; just don't cross that line, and you will not go wrong.

This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Xiaoguo.

Line position

A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is also yin, so there is no answer from it.

Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
