The Image commentary on this line

濡其首厲,何可久也。

"The head gets wet. Danger": how could this last long?

The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.

Verdict

慎Proceed with care. There is some risk, or some regret left over, but nothing serious. Notice it early, correct it early, and things turn for the better.

  • 厲 danger: a real risk, survivable if you stay alert

Asking about work, love or money

Work
Having pulled one thing off, you let yourself go and dig in deeper and deeper, forgetting all caution. The water is already over your head, and this is dangerous. Lift your head quickly, see where you stand, and pull back where you should.
Love
Now that love is going well, you dive in headfirst, do as you please, look at nothing else, and stop paying attention to how the other person feels. Sinking this deep is dangerous; lift your head while there is still time.
Money
Having made money, you keep putting more in, sinking deeper and deeper, far beyond what you can bear. This is dangerous. Pull back quickly, before you go under.

This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Jiji.

Line position

A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the third line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.

Top place: the end of the matter. What reaches its limit turns. Know when to stop.
