Zhun, six in the second placeHexagram 3, line 2 · Zhun (Difficult Beginnings) · changing to 60
The line
In plain wordsAdvancing and retreating, unable to get anywhere even on horseback. The one who comes is not a robber but a suitor; yet you keep to the right course and don't say yes, and only after a long time, when the truly right person comes, do you give your word. Don't settle just because things are hard.
The Image commentary on this line
六二之難,乘剛也。十年乃字,反常也。
The difficulty of the six in the second place: it rides on the firm. "After ten years she gives it": things return to the normal.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
慎Proceed with care. The text gives no verdict, but the picture holds an obstacle and a warning. Slow down and watch the point it warns about.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- You are stuck between going forward and going back, and someone comes to recruit you or makes you an offer. It is not a bad thing, but it is not your road. Don't say yes just because things are hard; hold your direction, even if it means waiting longer.
- Love
- The other person is pressing you to declare yourself or make a promise. There may be no ill will in it, but you have no answer in your heart yet. Don't settle just because the standoff is uncomfortable; hold to your true heart, and say yes only when it is truly right.
- Money
- When money is tight, someone is willing to lend to you or cover for you, but with strings attached. It isn't necessarily a trap, but it doesn't suit your way. Don't take it just because you need money fast; better to go slower.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Zhun.
Line position
A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.
Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three inscribed sides, old yin), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Zhun (Difficult Beginnings); when this line changes it becomes Jie (Limitation): hexagram 3 changing to 60.
