Pi, six in the second placeHexagram 12, line 2 · Pi (Standstill) · changing to 6
The line
In plain wordsBearing with and deferring. For petty people, acting this way is good fortune. A person of integrity should rest content in being shut off, and not drop their principles just because others are deferring to them; that is how things go through.
The Image commentary on this line
大人否,亨。不亂群也。
"For the great person, keeping to the standstill brings success": he is not thrown into disorder by the crowd.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
吉Favorable. This text describes a good outcome. Act the way it says and the matter can succeed. The promise has a condition: keep to the right course.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- Someone keeps agreeing with you and flattering you, hoping to use you to get their own business done. Don't drop your principles because you are being flattered. Better to be left out in the cold for a while than to be drawn in; that is how things go through.
- Love
- Someone goes along with you and gives way to you in everything, hoping to get something out of this closeness. Don't lower your principles just because you are being indulged. Better a quiet spell alone than settling; keep hold of yourself, and there is a way through.
- Money
- Someone flatters you and goes along with you, trying to pull you into money that does not come honestly. Others may gain a little by doing this, but you cannot. Better to earn less for now and keep your principles; that is how you go far.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Pi.
Line position
A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.
Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
When you get this line
