三錢六擲明Cast简繁

Mingyi, six at the topHexagram 36, line 6 · Mingyi (Darkened Light) · changing to 22

The line

Text不明晦,初登于天,後入于地。No light, only darkness. First it climbed to heaven; afterward it plunged into the earth.

In plain wordsIt gives no light; instead all is dark. At first it climbed high into the sky. Afterward it plunged headlong into the ground.

The Image commentary on this line

初登于天,照四國也。後入于地,失則也。

"First it climbed to heaven": it lit up the states on all four sides. "Afterward it plunged into the earth": it lost the rule.

The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.

Verdict

止Hold back. The text gives no verdict, but the picture is a bad one. Carry on as you are and you will lose by it. Stop, step aside, or change your approach.

Asking about work, love or money

Work
Glory gained by pushing people down and ignoring the rules ends in a headlong fall. Stop doing it, and don't climb along with people like that. Pull back while you can and get back to playing by the rules.
Love
It began so hot it seemed to reach the sky; now only darkness and wearing each other down are left, and holding on will only drag you both down. Stop forcing it, don't try to keep it through control, and let go soon.
Money
You rode a passing surge up while ignoring the rules, and now you are already falling. Stop at once, and don't spend or borrow any more to keep up appearances.

This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Mingyi.

Line position

A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the third line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.

Top place: the end of the matter. What reaches its limit turns. Know when to stop.
