The line
In plain wordsTrapped by food and drink — too much of what you wanted has come, and it has turned into a burden. An appointment from above is on its way. It is fitting to receive it with a sincere heart, as at a sacrifice; going out to seek it brings misfortune. Wait calmly: no blame.
The Image commentary on this line
困于酒食,中有慶也。
"Hemmed in by wine and food": at the center there is cause for celebration.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
慎Proceed with care. The text speaks of misfortune and also says it can be avoided. The danger lies in rushing and forcing. Stay steady, correct mistakes, and the bad outcome can be escaped.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- Dinners, social obligations and requests at your door have piled up and tied you down. If those above value you, they will come to you; there is no need to go asking. Do your job with a sincere heart and wait calmly, because running around to seek it out yourself would bring misfortune.
- Love
- Attention, invitations and kindness have come all at once, so much that you can't keep up and it wears on you. Receive what is in front of you sincerely and wait calmly; don't go chasing or asking for more, since that would only spoil things.
- Money
- Money and perks are coming in, but the eating, drinking and social obligations have become a burden. Don't go fighting for more; be sincere and keep to your role, because rushing out after money now would bring misfortune.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Kun.
Line position
A yang line in a yin place: it is not in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is also yang, so there is no answer from it.
Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
