Guan, six in the second placeHexagram 20, line 2 · Guan (Contemplation) · changing to 59
The line
In plain wordsPeeking out through the crack of the door, you see only a sliver. For someone who stays at home this does no harm; for someone who has to act out in the world, it is unfavorable.
The Image commentary on this line
窺觀女貞,亦可醜也。
"Peeping through the door", staying true as a woman does: this too can be shameful.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
平Neutral. Neither good nor bad. Do your part, correct mistakes, and nothing will go wrong.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- You are looking at the situation through a crack, and what you see is narrow. That will do when you are only handling small tasks within your role; but to go out and make your way or to make decisions, you have to open the door, look more and ask more.
- Love
- You are sizing up the other person on the sly and judging from the one corner you can see. That does no harm while you are content with how things are. But if you want to take a step forward, stop hiding behind the door and get to know them openly.
- Money
- You see only a small piece of the money picture, mostly from hearsay. That is enough for getting by on what you have; but before you go out into business or make big decisions, get a clear view of the whole.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Guan.
Line position
A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.
Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three inscribed sides, old yin), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Guan (Contemplation); when this line changes it becomes Huan (Dispersion): hexagram 20 changing to 59.
