Dazhuang, nine at the beginningHexagram 34, line 1 · Dazhuang (Great Strength) · changing to 32
The line
In plain wordsStrength put into the toes — you are at the bottom, yet in a hurry to charge ahead. Advancing like this is sure to bring misfortune; that much is certain.
The Image commentary on this line
壯于趾,其孚窮也。
"Strength in the toes": that it ends in exhaustion can be trusted.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
止Hold back. This text describes a bad outcome. Carry on as you are and you will lose by it. Stop, step aside or change your approach. Do not force it.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- You are just starting out and your position is still low, yet you are in a hurry to charge ahead and make your name all at once. Forcing your way like this will only hit a wall. Stop, and get your footing first.
- Love
- The relationship is not at that stage yet, and you are rushing to confess, to ask for a commitment, to make the other person declare themselves. Pushing like this will only ruin things. Rein yourself in and stop charging ahead.
- Money
- Little capital and little experience, yet you want to make quick money on sheer drive. That road does not go through. Stop. Don't put money in, and above all don't borrow to charge ahead.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Dazhuang.
Line position
A yang line in a yang place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the fourth line, which is also yang, so there is no answer from it.
First place: the beginning of the matter. Low position, little power. Begin carefully.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three backs, old yang), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Dazhuang (Great Strength); when this line changes it becomes Heng (Endurance): hexagram 34 changing to 32.
