Dazhuang, nine in the second placeHexagram 34, line 2 · Dazhuang (Great Strength) · changing to 55
The line
In plain wordsStay true: good fortune. Your position is not quite right, but you can hold to the middle way, and through the middle way get back onto the right path.
The Image commentary on this line
九二貞吉,以中也。
Nine in the second place, "staying true brings good fortune": because it is in the center.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
吉Favorable. This text describes a good outcome. Act the way it says and the matter can succeed. The promise has a condition: keep to the right course.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- You have strength and confidence, though your position may not be the best fit. Keep a sense of proportion in what you do, without going to extremes or ramming ahead, and you will stay on the right path. That is good.
- Love
- You are attractive and you have a mind of your own, but you don't need the upper hand everywhere. Keep your warmth within bounds, leave room when you speak, avoid extremes, and your love life stays on the right path.
- Money
- Even with money behind you, don't go to extremes with it: don't stake it all, and don't cling to every penny. Keep to the middle, earn only what comes the right way, and you have it right.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Dazhuang.
Line position
A yang line in a yin place: it is not in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.
Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
When you get this line
