Dazhuang, nine in the third placeHexagram 34, line 3 · Dazhuang (Great Strength) · changing to 54
The line
In plain wordsPetty people rely on brute force; the noble one looks on everything as nothing and is brave to excess. Even if you are in the right, it is dangerous — like a ram butting a hedge and getting its horns stuck.
The Image commentary on this line
小人用壯,君子罔也。
"The petty person uses strength"; the noble one, for their part, "treats everything as nothing."
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
慎Proceed with care. There is some risk, or some regret left over, but nothing serious. Notice it early, correct it early, and things turn for the better.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- Because you think you are right and capable, you take nothing seriously and insist on ramming ahead. Even if you are right, charging in like this is dangerous. It is like a ram butting a hedge: in the end, you get yourself stuck.
- Love
- To prove a point, you push hard against the other person, or insist they give you an answer, leaving no room at all. Even with right on your side this is dangerous, and it can easily leave the two of you stuck in a deadlock.
- Money
- Counting on deep pockets and sharp judgment, you take on an obvious obstacle head-on. However accurate your read, overreaching like this is dangerous. Don't use money to win a quarrel with someone, or to fight the way things are going.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Dazhuang.
Line position
A yang line in a yang place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the top line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.
Third place: the top of the lower trigram, a place of risk. A moment of transition. Be on guard.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three backs, old yang), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Dazhuang (Great Strength); when this line changes it becomes Guimei (The Marrying Maiden): hexagram 34 changing to 54.
