三錢六擲革Cast简繁

Ge, six at the topHexagram 49, line 6 · Ge (Revolution) · changing to 13

The line

Text君子豹變,小人革面。征凶,居貞吉。The noble one changes like a leopard. The petty person changes his face. To set forth brings misfortune. Staying put and staying true brings good fortune.

In plain wordsThe change is complete: the noble one is made new, like a leopard in a fresh coat, and even petty people change their expression to show they go along. Do not push any further now. Settle down and stay true: good fortune. Revolution is something done only when there is no other way; it must not be overdone.

The Image commentary on this line

君子豹變,其文蔚也。小人革面,順以從君也。

"The noble one changes like a leopard": his pattern is rich. "The petty person changes his face": he complies and follows the ruler.

The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.

Verdict

慎Proceed with care. The text names both a good and a bad outcome: one way of acting leads to each. The result depends on which you choose.

  • 吉 good fortune: the matter turns out well
  • 凶 misfortune: a bad outcome if you continue this way

Asking about work, love or money

Work
What needed changing has been changed. Some have truly come along, others only go along on the surface, and that is enough. Don't keep stirring things up or insist that everyone be won over at heart; push any further and trouble follows. Hold things steady as they are and look after them.
Love
What needed changing has been changed, whether in you or in the relationship. Some changes only go skin-deep, but don't chase after making them complete; push any harder and it will hurt. Settle down and live calmly from here, and that is good.
Money
The adjustments are done, and your new habits of earning and spending are on track. Don't keep changing the rules or switching paths at every turn; changing too much only causes a mess. Keep to the new way, and you will stay steady.

This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Ge.

Line position

A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the third line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.

Top place: the end of the matter. What reaches its limit turns. Know when to stop.
