The line

Text龍戰于野,其血玄黃。Dragons fight in the open country. Their blood is dark and yellow.

In plain wordsDragons are fighting to the death in the wilds, and the blood that flows is both dark blue and yellow. The yin side has grown so strong it takes on the yang head to head, and both are badly hurt. Misfortune.

The Image commentary on this line

龍戰于野,其道窮也。

"Dragons fight in the open country": their way has run out.

The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.

Verdict

止Hold back. The text gives no verdict, but the picture is a bad one. Carry on as you are and you will lose by it. Stop, step aside, or change your approach.

Asking about work, love or money

Work
You were meant to support, yet you have grown strong enough to take on the person in charge head to head. Fighting on will only leave both sides badly hurt. Stop, and step out of this struggle.
Love
The two of you are locked in a fight where neither will give way, and every word wounds. Stop meeting force with force; if it truly cannot go on, let it go.
Money
Fighting someone over money to the bitter end, with neither side giving way, leaves both badly hurt. Don't keep pouring money in just to win a point of pride; get out early.

This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Kun.

Line position

A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place. Its partner is the third line, which is also yin, so there is no answer from it.

Top place: the end of the matter. What reaches its limit turns. Know when to stop.
