Bo, six in the second placeHexagram 23, line 2 · Bo (Splitting Apart) · changing to 4
The line
In plain wordsThe rot has reached the place where the bed board meets the legs. One level higher, and the right way goes on being destroyed. Misfortune.
The Image commentary on this line
剝床以辨,未有與也。
"The bed is stripped at the frame": he has no one with him yet.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
止Hold back. This text describes a bad outcome. Carry on as you are and you will lose by it. Stop, step aside or change your approach. Do not force it.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- The rot has spread one level higher, and no one is standing on your side. Don't keep fighting alone, and don't argue. Pull back to the most secure ground and wait for this to pass.
- Love
- The relationship has worsened another step, no one around you can help, and the other person is not responding. Stop struggling alone to save it; the harder you try, the more it hurts. Step back first and protect yourself.
- Money
- The losses have gone one layer deeper, and no one can help you hold up. Don't borrow and don't raise the stakes to win it back. Cut back on spending and hold on to what you have left.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Bo.
Line position
A yin line in a yin place: it is in its proper place; it holds the center of its trigram. Its partner is the fifth line, which is also yin, so there is no answer from it.
Second place: the center of the lower trigram, a place of praise. Stay centered and yielding.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three inscribed sides, old yin), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Bo (Splitting Apart); when this line changes it becomes Meng (Youthful Ignorance): hexagram 23 changing to 4.
