Jin, six at the beginningHexagram 35, line 1 · Jin (Advance) · changing to 21
The line
In plain wordsYou want to move up but are pushed back. Stay true and there is good fortune. Others do not trust you yet, so relax and take it calmly; no blame.
The Image commentary on this line
晉如,摧如;獨行正也。裕无咎;未受命也。
"Advancing, then thrust back": one walks alone in what is correct. "Stay at ease, and there is no blame": one has not yet received a mandate.
The small Image commentary is the earliest explanation of the line texts. It usually explains a line from its position: where it stands, whether it holds the center, and which line answers it.
Verdict
吉Favorable. This text describes a good outcome. Act the way it says and the matter can succeed. The promise has a condition: keep to the right course.

Asking about work, love or money
- Work
- You want to move up but have been pushed back, and people don't trust you yet. Keep doing your proper work well, stay relaxed, and don't rush to prove yourself. That is good.
- Love
- You want to get a step closer but have been held back; the other person doesn't fully trust you yet. Don't rush to declare yourself or press for answers. Relax and keep being sincere as usual; there is nothing wrong with taking it slowly.
- Money
- You wanted to earn a bit more and hit a wall right away; people aren't ready to trust you with their money yet. Stick to proper methods, keep an easy mind, and build up trust slowly, and the way will open.
This is how to read it when this is the only changing line. With several changing lines, first see which text governs; for the hexagram as a whole, see Jin.
Line position
A yin line in a yang place: it is not in its proper place. Its partner is the fourth line, which is its opposite, so the two answer each other.
First place: the beginning of the matter. Low position, little power. Begin carefully.
When you get this line
If this is the only changing line in your cast (three inscribed sides, old yin), this line is your answer. The primary hexagram is Jin (Advance); when this line changes it becomes Shihe (Biting Through): hexagram 35 changing to 21.
